Selected family relationships
The interactive tree needs JavaScript. The family chapters and source collection remain available.
Use the tree with the chapters
The tree is a way to move between people; the chapters explain the lives behind the links. Follow a person into their source references, then use the family stories to understand the household, work and places recorded there. A solid connection and a tentative connection deserve different readings. The dashed links retain the compiler's uncertainty instead of allowing the diagram to make a stronger claim than the records do.
The Gates branch remains separate where the reviewed material does not supply the intervening pedigree. An empty part of the tree is an invitation to research, rather than evidence that no connection exists.
Sources and limits
The tree follows selected relationships recorded in the family biographies and compiled genealogies. Source titles and printed page references appear with each person. These accounts have not all been independently verified against vital records.
Dashed parent links identify the author’s tentative reconstructions. The Howell connection through Joel and the proposed parents of Frederick Schweickart remain qualified. The Gates record is shown separately because the reviewed material does not establish a full maternal pedigree.
Living-person dates and private contact details are omitted. The tree includes only selected descendants and branches.
