Fuel purchasing and cost stability

A bulk-fuel purchasing opportunity aimed at making a refuse fleet’s operating costs more predictable.

Project context

Fuel was a recurring operating cost at Zan’s Refuse. While working in the business, I identified an opportunity with World Fuel Services to buy fuel in bulk and lock purchase pricing instead of relying entirely on retail purchases at the local station.

Purchasing work

I worked on bulk purchasing and locked pricing as a way to improve cost predictability. The question was how a supplier’s purchasing terms could help the business plan for a necessary, repeated expense.

Operating context

This work sat alongside route planning, maintenance, and equipment availability. It required understanding the fleet’s recurring operating needs as well as its next truck purchase.
